[Class 22] In forming chromite refractories, chrome ore is heated with substances yielding barium or strontium oxides in amount sufficient to form barium or strontium orthosilicates with the silica contained in the ore. The natural carbonates or sulphates of barium or strontium may be used. The magnesia in the ore forms periclase. Specifications 409,130, 451,493, 468,659 and U.S.A. Specification 2,066,543 are referred to.
