443,467. Casting-machines. VOHNSEN, V. C., and VOHNSEN, R., 56, Syrefabriksvej, Kastrup, and FOSKJAER, I., 22, Vermundsgade, Copenhagen, both in Denmark. April 26, 1935, No. 12545. Convention date, April 26, 1934. [Class 83 (i)] Relates to machines for ejecting molten metal under pressure from a cylinder closed by a cap into a substantially horizontally d.isplaceable mould, and consists in means for bringing the mould into and out of position against the outlet nozzle of the cylinder. As shown, a pressure cylinder 1 has a piston which is controlled and operated by valves 36, 37, 38 and which transmits motion to a rod 3 carrying a cross frame 16 with rollers 17. The rollers operate against cam surfaces 22, 22<1> to bring the mould and its inlet nozzle 24 into and out of position to receive metal from the outlet 12 of the metal supply cylinder 6. The cross frame 16 is attached to a rod 5, Fig. 4, working with limited movement in a piston 5<a> arranged in the cylinder 6. The cylinder after filling with metal is closed by a cap 10, provided with a supply passage 11, which is cleared after operation by means of a device 52 rotated by a handle 56. In operation, movement of a handle 42 to the position 42<1> operates through gearing the valves to connect the lower part of the cylinder 1 to air pressure and upper part to the atmosphere. The piston rod 3 is raised and the rollers 17 contact with the cam surface 22 to move longitudinally rods 20 supporting a shaft 29 carrying a pinion 28 gearing with a rack 26 attached to the mould 23. Movement of the handle to the position 42<1> moves a roller 45 to the position 45<1> for engagement by a projection 48 when the piston rod 3 has risen some distance in its stroke. Thereupon the projection 48 raises the roller 45 to the position 4511 corresponding to a position of the air valves in which pressure air is conducted to the upper part of the cylinder 1 and the lower side is exposed to the atmosphere. Free movement of the rod 5 in the piston 5<a> enables complete closure of the metal supply outlet 12 by the inlet nozzle 24 of the die before the metal is forced into the mould.
