Abstract

443,231. Type-printing telegraphy. CREED & CO., Ltd., and SALMON, R. D., Telegraph House, Croydon. Aug. 23, 1934, No. 24361. [Class 40 (iii)] A typewheel 11 is positioned by a rack 9 which travels in a slide 8. The rack is coupled by a pin-and-slot connection to a lever 1<1> whose other end is pivoted at 12. The lever is also coupled by a pin-and-slot connection 3<1>, 2<1> to an escapement disc 4<1> which is adapted to be released for one revolution at each movement of a permutation bar 6<1>. The pivot 12 is mounted on a block sliding in a guide 7, and the block is coupled by a pin- and-slot connection to a further lever 1<11> controlled by a second escapement disc 4<11>. When the latter lever is shifted, it causes lever 1<1> to turn about the pin 3<1> which is so placed that the pin 15 on rack 9 is moved in a step-down ratio of 2 to 1 as compared with pin 12. Lever 1<11> is similarly connected to a third lever, and that to a fourth, which is connected to a fifth lever having one fixed pivot. The escapement discs 41, 411.. all have equal throws, so that the movements produced by them and the rack 9 are proportional to 16, 8, 4, 2, and 1. They may be driven by a pawl-and-ratchet clutch of the kind described in Specification 443,232.
