Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 29, 1934]. [Class 4] In one form, flaps along the whole or part of an aeroplane wing are hinged at their leading or trailing edges to the wing at or near its leading or trailing edges, at least one flap being provided on both the upper and lower wing surfaces. In a modification, two wings Uh, Ud normally held against stops Nh, Nd by springs Z<1>h, Z<1>d under aerodynamic forces may pivot about axes O<1> to close one or other of electric circuits through batteries Eh, Ed to actuate mechanism Mh, Md to raise the flaps Kh or Kd through rod Th or Td against the action of spring Zh or Zd. The electrical transmission may be replaced by hydraulic or mechanical means. In a further modification, a section D of a monoplane wing hinges under aerodynamic forces against the action of a pre-tensioned spring Z about the axes Oh or Od, Fig. 2. In the case of a biplane wing the nose of the wing may hinge against the action of a spring. Flaps Kh, Kd may be provided to swing out with the section D.
