Abstract

[Class 40 (i)] In a system for indicating at a dis tancethe rotationa position of a mem ber having un limited rotation the balance of a bridge formed by closed impedance or resis tance loops at the transmitter and receiver is effected automatically and directly by coils which carry the out-of-balance currents. As shown, the member operates contacts 2, 3 relatively to closed resistance loops supplied at diametrical opposite points, to vary the current distribution in line wires 4, 5 which are connected through the crossed coils 6, 7 of the receiver to a similar contact arrangement operated by the receiver. The coils 6, 7 are rotatable in a magnetic field and the arrangement is such that the receiver always operates to maintain a resistance balance at the transmitter and receiver. In a modification, the transmitter and receiver are provided with three brushes displaced at 120‹ around the resistance loops and the receiver comprises three coils similarly displaced in a magnetic field. The resistance loops may be rotatable and the brushes stationary. The resistances may be replaced by loops of capacitative or inductive elements. Indications may be given of movements having more than one degree of freedom.
