Abstract

440,977. Wick burners. SHERWOOD, S. H., 44, Granville Street, Birmingham. Oct. 27, 1934, Nos. 30840/34, 12943/35, and 14454/35. [Class 75(i)] Bent tongues at the ends of the wick tube of a flat-wick oil burner form vertical stops and guides for the wick. Fig. 4 shows a wick burner comprising a cone 4 adapted to be detachably secured to the body 3 by spring lugs 12. The cone 4 carries a china top 5 and a supplementary wick tube 14 which fits closely over the ordinary wick tube 6. The wick tube 14 is formed with end pieces 8 forming guides for the wick and having inturned upper edges forming stops. In another construction the cone is rigidly attached to the burner body and the end pieces 8 are formed on a tube soldered on to the wick tube. In another modification shown in Fig. 6 the wick tube is formed with semicircular end pieces 8 having inwardly turned tongues 18.
