Abstract
439,913. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES., 13, Steinstrasse, and NEHLSEN, H., 38, Hindenburgstrasse, Meererbusch, both in D³sseldorf, Germany. Nov. 27, 1934, No. 34052. [Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group XXXV] In driving each roll of a rolling mill by a separate electric motor in which the space between the roll axes are occupied almost wholly by the large rotors 3, 4, while the field windings 11 and poles are located at the sides only, the magnetic flux of both motors combine through the telescoping surfaces 7, 8, as shown by dotted lines 5 and 6, while the stator yokes are magnetically insulated from each other by insulation 14. Small commutating poles 15 are provided at top and bottom of the combined motors only and a single compensating coil 16 for armature reaction is located between the rotors. The top motor frame fits over the bottom frame with nonmagnetizable insulation 9, 10 between. For synchronous or asynchronous polyphase motors Fig. 2, rotating magnet wheels 31 can have very thick shafts, and their stators 33 are likewise magnetically separate from each other. The phase winding 35 is constructed so that its coil ends lie in three different planes and so do not extend beyond the outer edges of the segments 33 in the direction opposite one another. As these motors must run at speeds up to 1500 revolutions per minute the frequency used is usually a multiple of the usual 50 cycles.
