[Class 19] [See also Group IX] The wire bristles of brooms, streetsweeping brushes, and mats are made of a core of stranded steel or other wire covered with rubber. A bristle may consist of a cable of fine wires c, Fig. 2, of high grade steel with a sheath b of tough rubber or rubber-like material. In a modification, Fig. 3, a similar core c is surrounded by another cable c<1> also of elastic wires with a rubber cover b. In Fig. 4 a roller for a street sweeping machine has looped wire bristles as described threaded through perforated semi-cylindrical members e bolted together around a tubed. Pins g are provided to prevent axial displacement of the peripheral elements e. A street broom, Fig. 6, may have outer rows r<1> stiffer than inner rows r<2>. A door mat, Fig. 8, has bristles constructed as in Figs. 2 or 3.
