Abstract
Material with asymmetric conductivity, for use for example in p rectifiers, is made by heating together copper and sulphur, the former being in excess of the amount necessary to form cuprous sulphide, to a temperature of about 1100--1200 DEG C. until substantially complete combination of copper and sulphur is obtained. In one example, substantially four parts of copper to one of sulphur are slowly heated in a loosely closed vessel in a furnace until the sulphur begins to burn, the heat being gradually increased to 1200 DEG C. and maintained for about five minutes, the mixture being then poured into a container and allowed to cool. The cooled material may be ground to a fine powder and compressed at a pressure of from 7 to 23 tons per square inch into the form in which it is required for use.
