Abstract

437,451. Photographic anti-halation layers. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.- GES., Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. April 30, 1934, No. 12991. Addition to 397,740. [Class 98 (ii)] An anti-halation layer is coated with a protective layer of a resinous polymerization product or mixed polymerization product containing a salt-forming carboxyl group and derived from an unsaturated carboxylic acid. Polymerization products referred to are polyacrylic acid, polystyrenecarboxylic acid, polyvinylchloride-polyacrylic acid, polyacrylic acid nitrile-polystyrenecarboxylic acid, polystyrenemaleic acid (produced by the polymerization of equimolecular proportions of styrene and maleic anhydride followed by the addition of water) and polystyreneacrylic acid (produced by the polymerization of equimolecular proportions of acrylic acid and styrene). A suitable solvent is a mixture of propanol and isobutanol. The coatings are soluble in alkaline developers.
