Abstract
437,117. Washing-machines. SCHMID, C., 13, Meiningen Allee, Charlottenburg, Berlin. April 24, 1934, No. 12381. Convention date, April 26, 1933. [Class 138 (ii)] A device for agitating the liquid in a washing- machine comprises two cup-shaped members 8, 9 which are caused to recede from and approach one another alternately. The member 8 is integral with a cylinder 1 in which a piston 2 secured to the other member 9 works. The piston is moved in one direction against a spring 6 by fluid pressure admitted through a pipe 10, and at the end of its stroke automatically cuts off the fluid pressure supply. The piston is then moved in the opposite direction by the spring and at the end of its stroke re-opens the fluid pressure supply. The control means for the supply comprises a cylinder 3 which alternately closes and uncovers the supply and discharge ports 12, 13. As shown the piston is near the end of its (upward) stroke under the action of the spring. Further upward movement causes the lower end 7<b> of a hollow part 7<a> of the piston rod to contact with the enlarged lower end of a rod 4 carrying a pin 17 working in a stationary guide 16 and to which an end of each of two springs 5 is secured. The other ends of the springs 5 being secured to the cylinder 3. Upward movement of the rod 4 causes the springs to become horizontal and then to reverse their inclination thereby moving the cylinder 3 downwardly to open the ports 12 and close the ports 13. During the downward movement of the piston the rod 4 remains stationary until near the end of the stroke, the enlargement 4a is engaged by the upper end 7<c> of the hollow 7<a> and the rod 4 moves downwardly to raise the cylinder 3.
