[Class 40 (iv)] Signal currents from a speaker's microphone 1 or gramophone pick-up at an office or institution are fed through separate secondary windings 7<1> ... 7<3> of the output transformer of an amplifier 4 to a number of listeners over a corresponding number of exchange lines 15. Each line 15 is provided with a local-operator's three-position key 10 by which the line may be connected to a calling relay 12, the operator's head-set 16 ... 18, and the appropriate secondary winding 7<1>, respectively. A further key 19 connects the operator's head-set alternatively to the keys 10 and to an additional (monitoring) secondary winding 7. Relays 13 connected in series with windings 7<1> control clearing signals 13<1>. For use with a large number of lines, a cascade arrangement of transformers may be used, each secondary winding of the output transformer 6 being connected to the primary of a further transformer which itself has a plurality of separate secondaries.
