Abstract

436,947. Coating wires by extrusion. ST. HELENS CABLE & RUBBER CO., Ltd., Slough, HARRISON, H. C., Mayflower, Bath Road, Taplow, and ENSOR, A. J., c/o St. Helens Cable & Rubber Co., Slough, both in Buckinghamshire. April 13, 1934, No. 11199. [Class 87 (ii)] In an extrusion head for coating wires with rubber &c., comprising an outer die 7 and an inner hollow core or point 14 through which the wire is drawn, the point is mounted on an arm 12 which is detachably secured in an aperture in the side wall of the extrusion passage. The extrusion head 1 screws into the front end of the forcing cylinder 3 containing a feed worm. The passage 6 tapers towards the detachable die 7. The arm 12 carrying the core is mounted on a flange 15 which is bolted in a recess 11 in the wall of the head 1, the rear wall of which recess is inclined to facilitate withdrawal of the arm. A passage 19 is formed in the arm to lead a wire to be coated to the core point 14 which is detachable from the core proper. Both the core and arm are of stream-line form. The invention is stated to be applicable to extrusion heads having more than one die.
