[Class 9 (i)] [See also Group XXII] A cartridge-case, including a thickened base 2 and inner wall reinforcement 3 extending partly up the wall of the casing 1, is made in one piece by a cold extrusion process. A block of metal is extruded in the cold by the indirect process to produce a tube 1, Fig. 3, the chamber 5 for receiving the percussion cap 6 being formed in a further operation. A wad for separating the charges of powder and shot rests on the upper rim of the thickening 3. In a modification, the outer rim 4, Fig. 6, and cap chamber 5 are formed after the extrusion operation, and a construction 9 is formed to receive the wad. In a further modification, a constriction may be compressed and folded over to produce the folded projection 9", Fig. 12.
