[Class 79 (iii)] The detent rod 11 of a motor vehicle brake lever is connected to a locking member 16 housed in the lever handle 1, necessitat ing operation by a specia key 7 before the rod can be depressed. The member 16 is loosely threaded or the end of the rod so as to permit rotation througl 90‹ without disconnectior therefrom and is providec with sector-shaped wing: 16<111> located in a space i between upper and lowe: liners or filling pieces 3, 4 occupying the interior o the handle. The lower liner 4 is bored to receive the rod 11 and its return spring 15 and is segmentally cut away on opposite sides to allow up and down movements of the wing 16<111> therein. When locked, the wings 16<111> are located, as shown, above the solid portions of the liner 4, being retained in position by a detent 17 engaging a recess 18. To operate the detent rod, the key or pin 7 is inserted into a bore 6 in the upper liner, its entry being guided by a pin 9 thereon engaging a groove 8<1>. Lugs or projections 20 on the key engage co-operating recesses 21 in the locking member 6 and a further lug 19 engages and releases the detent 17. When the pin 9 reaches the end of the groove 8<1>, a transverse groove 8<111> provides for rotation of the key and locking member to bring the wings opposite the cut-away parts of the liner 4, whereon the detent rod may be depressed, the pin 9 on the key moving in a groove 8<11>.
