Abstract

436,290. Road - surface markings. SHAW, P., 1, Lane, Boothtown, Halifax, Yorkshire. April 3, 1934, No. 9943. [Class 3 (ii)] In a road-surface marking block of the kind comprising a metal holder with a resilient filling which normally projects above the road surface, the base of the filling is only partially supported so that the filling will yield by displacement and deformation or by either, when travelled over by a vehicle wheel, and sink to the level of the road surface. As shown in Fig. 2, the rubber filling A is supported on a bar b extending across the holder B and is provided with reflectors C. In another arrangement, Fig. 3, spikes b<1> on the holder B engage in lugs a<2> on the filling and a projection a<3> on the filling engages a bar b in the depressed position. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which ledges b<2> are provided for a wooden or other block D which supports the filling when depressed. The filling may comprise two or four parts supported in separate compartments of the holder and the block D may be supported on the base of the holder. The holder may be elliptical or triangular in cross-section. In an arrangement, Fig. 15, for use at cross-roads, the holder is shaped as a Maltese cross and the filling is supported on bars F. Alternatively, the filling may be supported by spikes as in Fig. 3.
