[Class 80 (iii)] [See also Group XXXV] A coupling device comprises two parts 7, 8 slidable one within the other and a catch 14 carried by one part 8 engagable with a notch or groove in the other part 7. The catch 14 is operated electromagnetically so as to couple the parts together, is slidable in a polepiece 30, 31 fixed to the member 8 and is connected to a polepiece 20 on which is mounted the operating coil 17 which is guided on bars 32 connected to the member 8. Lost motion may be provided in the connection between the catch 14 and the polepiece 20. Catch 14 may be spring or gravity operated and may be opened electromagnetically.
