Abstract

435,447. Converting pulsating currents into steady continuous currents. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, and SCHLESINGER, K., 39, Friedrichstrasse, Friedrichshagen, both in Berlin. Dec. 22, 1933, No. 36065. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1932. [Class 38 (ii)] A potential steadying device on an electric supply system comprises in combination with an ordinary filter chain of at least one condenser, a glow discharge lamp and a resistance connected in the leads between the glow discharge lamp and the last filter condenser. A rectifier 1 supplies the consuming apparatus 10 through a charging resistance 4 and the resistance 5. Steadying condensers 2, 3 are connected across the rectifier and a glow discharge lamp 6 is connected in parallel with the consuming apparatus 10. The lamp 6 has a cylindrical cathode 7 and rod anode 8 and the resistance 5 is selected e.g. at 1000 ohms, so that the discharge current through the lamp cannot become greater than the charging current of the condenser 3 thereby avoiding the relaxation effect of the condenser. A ballast resistance 9 of approximately 300,000 ohms is connected in parallel with the lamp 6. The pressure of gas in the glow discharge lamp is at a value where the difference between ignition and operating potential is as low as possible.
