Abstract
403,068. Discharge apparatus. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitats-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) March 11, 1932, No. 7344. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 12, 1932]. [Class 39 (i).] The ignition voltage of glow-discharge lamps or tubes operating on direct current is reduced by applying an alternating voltage to the electrodes through a condenser which prevents short-circuiting of the direct current. The series resistance may be such that the tube is fully loaded at the voltage at which it would ignite if no alternating voltage were applied. The tubes may be used in regulating arrangements as voltage-dependent resistances or to vary the short-circuited resistance of Tirrill regulators " in relation to the energizing voltage."
