Abstract
435,386. Cable attachments and couplings. TONDEUR, R., 25, Denbigh Terrace, and BOWDEN (ENGINEERS), Ltd., Victoria Road, Willesden Junction, both in London. Feb. 17, 1934, No. 5320. [Class 109] [See also Group XXII] An attachment 3 or coupling for a cable 1 is contracted into interlocking engagement with an elastically deformed high tensile open wire coil 2 which is thereby anchored to the cable, leaving clearance between the attachment and the cable. The wire of the coil 2 may be of oval section, having the major axis substantially parallel to the axis of the cable, and may be of the same gauge as the cable wires. The wire of the coil may be closely coiled for a few turns at one end, e.g., corresponding to the open end of a blind socket. The contraction of the attachment 3 may be effected cold by a series of dead blows given by a dead stroke press. The reduction of diameter may be 6 per cent. Alternatively swaging, rolling, fluid, steady pressure or other contracting methods may be employed.
