Abstract

435,306. Rotary engines. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO., 6, East 44th Street, New York, U.S.A. May 16, 1935, No. 14381, Convention date, June 9, 1934. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary reversible engine of the type shown uses the compressed gaseous driving medium to hold the sliding vanes outward against a cylinder liner 11, before the gas is led to an accumulator chamber 34, Fig. 4, which communicates with the inlet side of the working chamber 32. A rotary hand-operated valve 6 controls the flow of gas from a source to below the vanes, Fig. 11, and also the exhaust from the working chamber by way of ports 36, 6<h>, 10. Reversing the valve, secures reversal of the rotor direction. The inlet arc 15<a> supplying gas to the bottoms of the vanes is extended beyond the arc 25 which supplies the working chamber, so that the vanes are held out under pressure, after the working fluid is cut off from the chamber 32. Due to the pressure drop in the passages and accumulator 34, the force is greater radially on the vanes, than that used to drive the vanes. The vanes are deeper in the centre than at the sides, Fig. 11.
