Abstract

435,059. Valves. BOVING & CO., Ltd., and LUNDGREN, G. H., 56, Kingsway, London. April 14, 1934, No. 11295. [Class 135] A butterfly valve particularly for regulating the flow in hydraulic pipe lines for water turbines has an inflatable flexible tube d extending around the periphery of the valve blade a and over the trunnions b on one face only of the blade, the tube being secured in an undercut groove in the blade a and trunnions b by retaining strips, e.g. screwed to the blade a so that by detaching the strips, e.g. the tube d can be removed without disconnecting the blade a. One of the parts d<1> of the tube d extending around the trunnions b has a radialnipple d<2> extending into a radial passage communicating with an axial passage j in the trunnion b through which the tube may be inflated. The admission and discharge of fluid, which may be water or air under pressure, to and from the tube d may be controlled by a valve operated automatically, e.g. by the operating mechanism of the butterfly valve to admit inflating fluid to the tube when the valve is closed and to connect the tube to exhaust on the initiation of the opening of the valve. The tube d is of reinforced rubber lined with a flexible helical metal core.
