Abstract
434,329. Machine guns. PARR, C. E., 169, Higher Road, Urmston, Manchester. Feb. 6, 1935, No. 3809. [Class 92 (ii)] A recoil-operated machine gun has a cartridge conveyer ring 9, see plan, Fig. 4, with a number of radial firing chambers 10 which are brought successively behind the barrel 1 by rotation of the ring about a vertical axis, the cartridges being fed radially to the chambers, when the gun is in action, from a hopper 22, Fig. 2, by way of a shoot 24. The cartridges in passing down the shoot are supported by their rims and change their inclination from vertical to horizontal before resting on a tray 25 from which they are forced into the chambers by a pusher 30 reciprocated by the recoil of the barrel. The recoiling parts comprising the barrel 1, breech block 4, conveyer ring 9, and hopper 22 are mounted on a carriage 2 which slides on discharge in guides on the mounting 3 which carries a pawl 44 engaging a ratchet wheel 43 on the carriage to rotate the conveyer ring. The breech block has an eccentric surface 19 to extract the empty cartridge cases gradually from the chambers as the ring 9 revolves in the direction of the arrow 47, the cases ultimately falling through apertures 12. The chambers remain empty during a portion of the rotary movement to facilitate cooling. As an empty chamber arrives opposite the tray 25, the pusher 30, operated by fixed pins 34 and bell-crank lever 35, loads the chamber and a rod 40 connected to the pusher stresses a spring 29 connected to an arcuate pivoted arm 26 for moving the cartridges down the shoot. A handle 46 serves for moving the carriage 2 back by hand for starting the gun. Firing is effected by a trigger-operated lever 52, Fig. 1, carrying a depending rod 55 with pins 57 engaging a pivoted rod 50, a lump on which contacts with the sear 62 as the parts return after recoil.
