434,264. Tiling. RUMMENIE, G., 12, Papentorenvest, Haarlem, Holland. Feb. 4, 1935, No. 3537. [Class 20 (iv)] A process for setting wall tiles on a wall comprises clamping a group of tiles 2 in correct relative position in a temporary frame 1, with the rear faces of the tiles projecting beyond the face of the frame, positioning the frame, with the tiles clamped therein, against a wall, and inserting mortar between the tiles and the wall. The openings between the edges of the group of tiles and the wall may be closed by cloth or rubber strips. The frame 1 may be rectangular as shown in Fig. 1 and provided with longitudinal supports 3 and a stop edge 4. Rows of tiles 2 are arranged on the frame members 1, 3 and are clamped in position against the stop edge 4 by pressure members 7 which are adjustable by screws 8. The tiles project, as shown, beyond the side edges of the frame. A longitudinal rod 6, which is rotatably mounted beneath each row of tiles, is provided with a number of pressure plates 5, which during assembly of the tiles, are turned upwardly by rotation of the rod 6, and are also moved longitudinally on the rod 6 and against the edges of the tiles. If desired, distance pieces may be arranged in the longitudinal and transverse joints of the tiles before the latter are clamped together, and such distance pieces are subsequently removed and the spaces filled with cement. The frame is adapted to be temporarily fixed in position by staples, and is removed after the mortar is sufficiently set, the pressure members 7 being first withdrawn by the screws 8 and the pressure plates 5 being then turned downwardly.
