[Class 120 (iii)] Sewing - thread spools are provided with an inner bearing for a spindle and an outer thin walled hollow body wholly, or as axially located parts, moulded from a synthetic or plastic material. The spool may be made in one piece, or end flanges or bushes may be separately made and attached, e.g. by an adhesive. Trade marks or other inscriptions may be formed on the flanges by stamping or embossing, or labels may be pasted thereon. The spindle receiving portions may have tapering apertures to facilitate introduction of the spindle. Suitable materials are condensation products of phenol and formaldehyde, cellulose derivatives such as cellulose acetate, polymerized vinyl compounds, casein derivatives, and the like. The spools may be formed by pressing, stamping die-casting, squirting, extruding, centrifugal casting or by a combination of these methods. Fig. 4 shows a one piece spool, preferably formed by die-casting. Fig. 5 shows a spool with a central spindle bearing and open ends. In Fig. 8 the flanges 2 are formed separately from the barrel 10, and secured thereto by pressing or glueing ; the barrel may be formed of wood, metal, paper, or the like. Fig. 9 shows a form with the bearings in the flat faces of the conical flanges.
