[Class 8 (i)] A vacuum-cleaner casing is composed of three main portions, a main body portion 1 having a hole for the passage of the air from the brush carrying trough 7 to the fan casing 21. These portions are joined together by flanges 15, 5. The fan, formed from sheet metal by bending down webs 59, is driven from floor wheels 31 through a worm drive provided with a ratchet free wheel. The brush A, formed from two half-tubes 95 is rotated by the floor wheels 12 through gearing 72, 73 the casing of which is pivoted about bosses 70 and is pressed upwards by springs. The height of the brush is adjusted by the nut 94<a> acting on the pivoted bar 91 to press the casing downward. The brush is detached by forcing backwards the pins 76<a> which are held in slots 87 by the springs 86. A rubber cushion 103 surrounds the casing.
