Abstract

Chromium-titanium steels containing about 3 to 30 per cent of chromium, or chromium-nickel-titanium steels containing about 3 to 30 per cent of chromium and 5 to 35 per cent of nickel are welded by a steel welding rod containing about 3 to 30 per cent of chromium, 5 to 35 per cent of nickel and a substantial amount of niobium. The rod contains carbon up to 0,3 per cent, the niobium content being preferably from four to ten times the carbon content but not over 5 per cent. The carbon content of the base metal may be up to 0,3 per cent with titanium at least twice the carbon content but not over 5 per cent. A steel containing 18,76 per cent of chromium, 8,88 per cent of nickel, 0,84 per cent of titanium and 0,12 per cent of carbon may be welded by a steel rod containing 18,3 per cent of chromium, 8,97 per cent of nickel, 1,16 per cent of niobium and 0,1 per cent of carbon.
