Abstract

432,913. Boxes. MITCHELL, W. R., and DRING, Ltd., J., Stamford Factory, Stamford Street, Portsmouth. Feb. 6, 1934, No. 3923. [Class 18] A box of cardboard &c., especially for the transport of live chicks, in which the sides 6 can collapse on to the base and the ends 2 collapse so as to lie flat with the base, as shown in Fig. 2, is provided with partitions 10 which are attached at their outer ends to the sides and have oblique creases 12 so that they can also be collapsed to lie flat on the base. The box is formed from a single blank comprising a base and sides and ends integral with the edges of the base, and the sides carry end flaps 7 which are stitched to the inside of the ends and are creased diagonally to allow the box to collapse, or the flaps 7 may be just tucked inside the ends. Locking flaps 4 which fold over inside the box and hold it erected are formed as extensions of or are attached to the ends 2. The partitions 10 and further transverse partitions 17 are stitched to the sides 6 and flaps 4 respectively, but the partitions 17 are formed in two parts with folding creases 21 and they are connected together when the box is erected by metal tags 20. The two sets of partitions interlock by means of slots, and the slots 18 in the partitions 17 may be formed with curved entrances to facilitate setting up. A removable or hinged lid 26 which is also collapsable is also provided. A collar 23 formed from a strip with its ends slotted together is provided in each compartment, and these collars are provided with apertures and notches to facilitate circulation of air inside the box. The partitions are apertured for the same purpose ; and ventilation apertures are provided in the sides 6 and also in the lid and in the base adjacent the points of intersection of the partitions so as to communicate with the spaces between the collars and the partitions. According to the Provisional Specification, both sets of partitions may be formed in two parts.
