Abstract
Apparatus for moistening or gumming by hand envelopes, labels, or the like comprises a revoluble roller 2 adapted to be moistened by the liquid but not subject to uplift by the liquid, above which is a roller, yoke, rail or the like 3, urged downwardly by its own weight only, but free to move upwardly. The pressure device may be arranged at a certain minimum distance from the moistening roller, <PICT:0431364/III/1> <PICT:0431364/III/2> which distance may be adjustable. The moistening roller may dip into the liquid, or it may be situated above the level of the liquid, and may be fed by auxiliary roller; the rollers may be covered with an absorbent material. The pressure device 3 is preferably bevelled to facilitate introduction of the envelope &c.
