[Class 77] A bathing costume comprising a skirt portion and a knickers, shorts, or legs portion, is constructed so as to provide a single thickness of material round the waist and hip parts. In the form shown, an abbreviated knickers portion 2 is provided within the skirt portion 1, and consists of a substantially triangular front part 3 extendingly upwardly from points 4, 5, at the outer sides of the leg openings to a point 6 situated some distance below the waist line 7-8 of the costume, and a similarly - shaped back part 9 non-contiguous with the front part 3, and extending upwardly from the points 4, 5, to a point 10 situated below the waist line and, preferably lower than the point 6. The back part 9 is stitched along its upper edges and at the outer sides to the skirt portion, but a part of one or each of the edges of the front part 3 is left free to afford access to the wearer's crotch when desired. In a modification, substantially triangular front and back skirt portions are secured over the front and back of the leg portions of a skirtless type of bathing costume to produce a costume having a single thickness of material round the waist and hip parts.
