Abstract
In devices for aerating liquids, especially in yeast fermentation processes, a hollow body serving for supplying air to the liquid, of such shape as to offer small resistance in the direction of movement, is moved through the liquid with great velocity relative thereto in such a manner that the air escaping from comparatively large openings is broken up at the moment of its contact with the liquid into very fine bubbles. Preferably, the air escapes from the hollow body in a direction deviating from the plane of movement of the body, for example, perpendicular or approximately perpendicular thereto. Guiding blades may be arranged in the outlet direction of the air, preferably below the rotating member. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 conprises also drawings of apparatus embodying the principles of the invention. According to these drawings, the rotating body may have four arms with perforations which do not extend as far as the axis. Guidling blades are provided below the rotating body, and a telescopic guiding cylinder may also be arranged coaxially about the axis of rotation in order to render the process of aeration more efficient. To assist the action of the guiding plates, the cooling device for the work may be constructed as a vertical or horizontal tube system, one arrangement of which is shown. In one form of rotating member having a large number of vanes, the parts near the axis are constructed to form screw blades. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
