Abstract

1399520 Agitating and aerating liquids H MULLER 5 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971 28 Jan 1972 28 Feb 1972] 56157/72 Heading B1C Liquified aerating apparatus, especially for fermentation processes, comprises a container 1 having a horizontal rotatable shaft 3 carrying a plurality of impellers as at 7, 7', 7", 8 within a tube 6 having apertures 9 through which liquid is drawn in, gas being supplied to the axial region of the impellers by nozzles 14. The aerated liquid is expelled centrifugally through apertures and/or slots in the tube 6 which are veriously arranged as at 10, 11, 12 (see also Figs 2-4, not shown). The impellers may have annular shrouds at both or one end, as at 7, 8. Gas may also be supplied through the shaft 3 which is then hollow. The apertures or slots in the tube 6 may be adjusted in size by externally operable means which may be automatically controlled in dependance on the power consumption of the motor 4. There may be a jacket 2 for a heat exchange fluid. External circulation may be arranged by connecting the outlet 20 to the inlet 19 through a pump, and there may be a rotary foam extractor 17.
