Abstract

430,037. Hinges. CHATWOOD SAFE CO., Ltd., and BRUCKSHAW, H. S., Harlescott, Shrewsbury. Dec. 29, 1933, No. 36573. [Class 65 (ii)] In an adjustable, selfaligning, and relatively frictionless hinge for doors, particularly of safes, of the type comprising a ball mounted between a pair of hinge brackets, the ball g is carried in a cup f mounted for axial adjustment in a recess in one hinge bracket c, the adjustment being effected by a screw m screwing into the bracket c and contacting with the cup f; the other hinge bracket k has a recess formed in it to receive the ball g. In the form shown, the screw m is set at an angle so as to be self-locking. The upper hinge is similar to that shown, but inverted. The brackets k of the hinges are riveted to an angle member j secured to the body of the safe by studs passing through holes j with clearance to allow of slight adjustment ; the brackets c are fixed to the door (which is removed in the view shown) by studs c<1>, and adjustment may be made by inserting packing between the bracket and door. In the arrangement shown, the door brackets c are above and below the fixed brackets k, but they may alternatively be arranged between the brackets k.
