429,329. Exhaust-silencers. JEE, G., 54, Trewhitt Road, North Heaton, Newcastleon-Tyne. Feb. 2, 1935, No. 28715/34. [Class 7 (ii)] A silencer for the exhaust of internalcombustion engines comprises a pipe 1 attached at 11 to the exhaust pipe and formed with nozzle-like openings 9 bevelled off at an angle of about 15‹ and surrounded by cones 2, 3 arranged at an angle of about 6‹ and open at their ends 6, so that air entering these ends is heated before passing through the openings 9 to mix with the exhaust gases. Segmental openings 8 are provided for the passage of some of the air from the last cone. The cones may be adjustable along the pipe 1.
