Abstract

429,311. Aircraft wing structures. DUNCANSON, F., Seaplane Base, Brough, near Hull. April 3, 1934, No. 10018. [Class 4] Planes, construction of; framework.-The spar or spars of an aircraft wing are arranged to have their weakest section located substantially midway between the wing root and the inner end of the aileron in order that failure of the spar or spars under excessive compression load may result merely in buckling of the wing at this point instead of at the wing root. Fig. 1 shows a wing spar 11 of the type described in Specification 326,870*, [Class 4], which is weakened at A by locally reducing the amount of corrugated material 15, Fig. 3, applied to the upper surface of the spar.
