[Class 125 (ii)] A rotary machine for filling bottles &c. with aerated liquids comprises a number of filling heads 30 and a valve 24 which controls the supply of compressed air from a reservoir 28 and a valve 26 for controlling the escape of compressed air to the atmosphere. The controlling valve 24 intercepts the discharge of compressed air from the bottle to the atmosphere prior to the interruption of the flow of aerated liquid, so that compressed air is trapped in the bottle above the liquid level therein. The bottle is initially charged with compressed air at a pressure higher than that of the carbonated liquid and the air pressure in the bottle is so maintained that the liquid only trickles therein. The controlling means comprises a multiported disc valve 4 and a leather valve disc 5, the ports of which are adapted to establish connections between the bottles and the filling heads, and the compressed air and aerated liquid supplies. A compressed air dome 1 is bolted to a casting 2 which supports the filling heads 30. The pipe 7 charges the bell with compressed air at a pressure higher that that of the carbonated liquid. A pipe 9 for carbonated water leads to the valve 4, and an air discharge pipe 11 is also connected to the valve 4 and to a snift pipe 13. The pipe connections on the valve communicate with ports in the valve disc. On rotation of the casting 2 the ports 22 are moved successively into communication with the carbonated water port 20 in the disc, while the ports 23 are moved successively into communication with these three other ports in the valve disc 5 for the purposes stated.
