Abstract

[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 10, 1934]. [Class 37] A device for automatically indicating the names of received stations according to the position of the tuning member of a radio receiver comprises a station name indicator provided with a plurality of station names arranged in columns, the names being placed on parallel and equidistant lines, a marking index moving over the board or a portion thereof, according to the position of the tuning member, and for each station name a mark associated therewith and placed at the intersection of a predetermined line with the axis of the marking index when the latter is in the correct position for receiving the station. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the spindle 5 drives, through a friction drive 6, a disc 7 mounted on the spindle 8 of the tuning condensers. A pin 9 on the disc 7 actuates, through levers 10 and 12, a marking index 16 which rotates behind the name indicator 24 which is removably mounted between glass plates 25, 26 in a frame 19. The names are arranged as shown in Fig. 3, the names of the long-wave stations and their distinguishing marks being placed in the left-hand column, while the names of the short-wave stations occupy the remaining columns. Each shortwave name is associated with a mark, such as a dot, placed at the intersection of a horizontal line traced immediately above or below the name, with the axis of the index 16 when the latter is in the correct position for receiving the station. To facilitate the association of the name with its mark, a colour scheme may be adopted, each group consisting of a name and its associated mark being of the same colour, while the surrounding groups are of different colours. In order to keep the marks in the immediate vicinity of the names to which they relate, the change of inclination of the index on each side of its vertical position is compensated for by a change in the order of inscription of the names in the columns, the names being inscribed according to increasing wave-lengths on one side of the vertical position and according to decreasing wave-lengths on the other side. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 7, the marking index 44 moves so as to remain constantly parallel to the same direction, one end of the index being carried by a sliding member 52 mounted on a guide 49, and the other end being secured to a sleeve 43 freely mounted on a rod 33 actuated from the spindle 29 of the tuning member through cords or chains 36, 38 connected to a pulley 30 on the spindle. The name board 46 and guide 49 are carried by a plate 45 which may be pivoted at 46, 47 and may form the cover of the radio cabinet. The plate may be raised into any desired position and illuminated by a lamp placed within the cabinet. In another arrangement of the name board, Fig. 11 (not shown), the station names are placed in alphabetical order in columns at the sides of the board, and the marks co-operating with the movable index are placed in the central part of the board, the marks being placed on the same horizontal line as the name to which they relate, and identified with the corresponding name by using corresponding marks of different colours at the head of each column.
