Abstract
428,362. Transferring blanks to chucks. STENMAN, P. L., 32, Ostermalmsgatan, Stockholm. Sept. 4, 1933, No. 24513. [Class 83 (iii)] In a screw-making &c. machine wherein headed blanks are fed along a feed tube to a chuck, a yielding guiding device is disposed in the feed tube so as to lift the point of a passing blank in order to present it centrally with respect to the chuck jaws. A screwblank 1 is pushed forwards in a feed tube 7 by means of a plunger 3 and is centred, with respect to the chuck jaws 2, by means of springs 4, Fig. 1. The springs may be bent outwards slightly and act on balls, rollers, plungers, &c., which project into the tube 7 to raise the point of the blank as it passes. Alternatively, radial springs 4, Fig. 2, may act on the balls, &c. 5. In another form, flat springs 4 may act on pivoted dogs having forward ends projecting into the tube 7, or the dogs 6, Fig. 7, may be loosely pivoted in the tube at 8 and centred by an enlarged head 11 on the plunger 3. The forward ends 9 of the dogs are moved outwards by the head of the blank 1 as it passes, and are returned to the position shown during retraction of the plunger by its head 11 acting on the rear portions 10 of the dogs.
