Abstract
427,980. Making electric fittings. MINER, A. W., 21, Frederick Street, Waterbury, Connecticut, U.S.A. Nov. 4, 1933, No. 30712. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [See also Group XL] Flanging.-A contact pin for vacuum tube bases is drawn from a flat metal blank as a rigid seamless tubular member with continuous unbroken side walls and having an outwardly extending integral upset bead around its outer wall. Fig. 9 shows a die for producing the bead. The blank 23 is confined by the rod 27 and the blocks 24, 25. When pressure is applied to the plunger 28 the tube is forced into the recesses 26. The bead may be at one end or at any intermediate point on the tube. The opening at the lower end may have a rounded or bevelled edge or may be turned in to form a smaller opening than the bore of the tube. The upper end may be open or closed by a thin wall. In the latter case the upper end of the pin may be pierced by suitably shaped plungers 42, Fig. 17, during the process of moulding the base, when a tapered opening 43, Fig. 1, is formed in the upper end.
