Abstract
427,539. Motor-vehicle driving-gear. THIRY, L., 17, Rue Vankeerberghen, Huy, Belgium. Dec. 29, 1934, No. 37280. Convention date, Jan. 4. [Class 79 (ii)] Independently - sprung steering-wheels 3 are each driven through two universal joints 4, 5, the centre of the latter joint being on the steering pivot axis X-X, an elastic coupling 7 being interposed between the joints so as to smooth out fluctuations of speed of the road wheel spindle 2 caused by springing and steering movements of the wheel. In the construction shown, the elastic coupling comprises a rubber bush 11 secured to an inner driving shaft 8 and an outer driven sleeve 7 in any suitable manner, as e.g. by initial deformation, cementing, spiral winding, grooving, or the use of tapered fitting surfaces. A sliding joint 9, 10 is provided between the joint 4 and the coupling 7. The vehicle suspension comprises springs 13 connected to steering pivots 12 on which the wheel swivel is mounted.
