[Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (v).] A driving wheel, which may also be a steering wheel and is driven through a universal joint 17 or like member, is mounted on a tubular non- rotating journal or sleeve 11, 13 by means of a bearing 7 outside the journal but at the inner end thereof, and a bearing 35 within the journal but at the outer end thereof, the journal enclosing the driving shaft and also, if desired, the uni. versal joint. In the construction shown the wheel is steerable on a pivot pin 23 formed on a dead axle 22. The steering swivel comprises flat rings 12, 14 spaced apart and having cylindrical extensions 11, 13 forming the journal or sleeve for the wheel bearings. An intermediate step 24 may be formed on the ring 14, and the two ring members are secured together by rivets 15 or in any desired manner. The steering swivel may be a forging or may be made by pressing. The wheel disc 2 and a brake drum 5 are bolted at 6 to the hub 37 which is mounted on the bearings 7, 35 and is driven from the universal joint 17 by means of a detachable dog coupling 39 having a screw connection 40. The inner bearing 35 may be removed with the hub or separately. After the hub is removed the universal joint may be withdrawn. The steering swivel is controlled by links 27, 28 having ball joints 26, 29 as described in Specification 376,847.
