Abstract
1298552 Vehicle suspensions; driving stearable wheels SKEFKO BALL BEARING CO Ltd 18 Dec 1969 [20 Dec 1968] 60846/68 Headings B7D and B7H [Also in Division F2] A bearing assembly for a wheel hub comprises two rows of rolling elements 14, 15 arranged to transmit both axial and radial thrust, the inner member of the assembly comprising two parts connected together by a spigot and socket connections, at least part of the mating surfaces being welded, preferably by electron or laser beam. The front wheel suspension shown in Fig. 5 comprises a hub unit 66 according to the invention pivotally connected to wishbone links 64, 65 by ball joints 67, 68 respectively permitting steering movements of a wheel mounted on the hub unit, and including a constant velocity universal joint 69 for transmitting drive torque to the wheel. Fig. 11 shows an alternative construction of a constant velocity universal joint combined with a hub unit according to the invention.
