Abstract
426,914. Float - actuated valves. VUILLE, L. M., Sonvilier, Berne, Switzerland. Sept. 6, 1934, No. 25652. [Class 135] A filling or distributing device for liquids adapted to shut off the supply when the liquid in the vessel being filled reaches the desired level, comprises an outer tube 14 in which loosely slides a tube 6 carrying a valve seat 2 for a valve 3. When the tube 6 is raised relatively to the tube 14 by an amount limited by a pin and slot 9, 8, a pivoted catch 11 engages beneath the valve stem and the valve remains open when the tube 6 falls, but as the vessel fills a float 12 rises to trip the catch 11 and allow the valve to close. The tube 14 is divided into two chambers by a partition 7 which diverts the liquid through holes 10 and also acts as a guide for the valve stem. The float 12 is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 and is retained within the tube by a pin 13. A flange 4 is provided to rest on the edge of the vessel, and in a modification wherein the valve seat 2 carries a funnel, the flange is adjustably screwed on to the outside of the tube. The device may be used for filling bottles, cans, casks, &c., on tanks delivering periodically a given quantity of liquid, or as a safety cut-off valve in constant level tanks.
