Abstract

827,184. Container closures. CHAPPELL, S. F. March 9, 1956, No. 7501/56. Class 125(3). A container closure for dispensing limited amounts of liquid comprises a stopper 2 with an axial passage 4 and a helical coil 1 extending from the bottom of the container to the stopper and forming a confined channel for the travel under gravity of a ball 7, the upper end of the coil being coaxial with the bottle neck and passage 4 which provides a valve seat 5 engageable by the ball to stop the flow of liquid. A terminal portion 6 of the coil retains the ball within the coil and when the container is inverted liquid flows out through passage 4 until the ball 7 has travelled under gravity in a spiral path to engage seating 5. The spacing of the coil turns may be varied to alter the time of travel of the ball.
