[Class 83 (iii)] Stocks and dies.-A device for producing tapered or parallel screw threads on pipes &c., comprises a body d carrying an internally screwed sleeve c screwing on a guide screw b attached to the work x and provided with a recess d<3> defined by flat walls d<x> to receive an integral screwing die or trimming cutter. A cover plate g attached by screws at g<1> to the body d holds the cutter or die in place and provision is made for adjusting the cutter or die if it is split. A ring f and bush e are mounted around a toothed collar d<1> on the body and serve to carry handles f and a spring driving ratchet f <2>. For producing tapered screw threads a tapered hollow-cutter head is used in the recess d<3> to shape the surface of the pipe &c., and is then replaced by a tapered screwing die. For cutting parallel threads a parallel die is used, each form of die being provided with a number of gaps h<1>, Fig. 8, for the escape of cuttings. Hollow-cutter heads.-The tapered cutter h, Fig. 8, has spaced or staggered cutting faces h<2> and gaps h<1> for the escape of cuttings.
