Abstract

205,573. Pattinson, T. E., and Associated Equipment Co., Ltd. July 20, 1922. Reamers; taps; screwing-dies.-In adjustable reamers, taps, dies, &c. having non-cutting bearing-members, the cutting-edges are integral with the body of the tool and the effective diameter is adjusted by displacing the bearing members radially. One or more bearing members 13 are displaced outwardly to increase the effective diameter of the opposite cutting-edges 11 by screws 18 and inclined surfaces 14. The recesses 12 for receiving the members 13 may be of different depths to take the bearing member in each in turn and so increase the range of adjustment, or alternatively, bearing members of different sizes may be used. The operative surfaces of the members may be in the form of rollers. The screw 18 may be replaced by one or more diametrical screws secured to the member, the wedge surfaces 14 then being dispensed with. When applied to a tap, the bearing member is serrated to correspond with the thread. In a screwing die, Fig. 8, the non-cutting bearing member 33 is adjusted by a screw 34.
