Abstract

426,200. Automatic circuit-breakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Thumim, C. ; P.O. Box 5312, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) Sept. 18, 1933, No. 25772. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1932. [Class 38 (v)] Operatingmechanism for an automatic circuitbreaker comprises a collapsable thrust - transmitting toggle structure 1 and a tripping toggle linkage 5, the latter being rendered sensitive to comparatively small tripping forces by means of a restraining member 6 having a cam-surfaced notch 23 engaging a member of said linkage, a locking member 7 for the restraining member, and tripping means for the locking member. The actuating rod 3 of the circuit-breaker is connected through a pivoted lever 14 and link 15 to a link 8 pivoted at 9 to one end of the tripping toggle 5 and to a link 10 having a fixed pivot 11. The circuit-breaker is closed by energizing a winding 2, the plunger 2<1> engaging a roller 12 carried by the link 8 and raising the parts into the position shown, where they are held by a spring-controlled prop 4 which snaps under the pivot pin 13 of the roller 12. The locking member may be operated directly by a current coil 28, or indirectly, through a lever 29, by a voltage coil 30, to release the restraining member 6, whereupon the structure 1 collapses and the circuit-breaker opens. During the opening movement, a member 31 carried by one of the members of the tripping toggle linkage 5, temporarily holds the locking member 7 and permits automatic resetting of the linkage 5.
