Abstract

425,091. Loom lays &c. BIRD, W. F., West Rolling Road, Springfield, and HEWTON, W. R., 1433, North 62nd Street, Philadelphia, both in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Aug. 28, 1934, No. 24808. [Class 142 (iii)] The lay, which is independent of the shuttleboxes moves in a straight line inclined to the horizontal so that, during shedding the warps pass centrally through the dents, while at beat-up, the fell is engaged by the lower parts of the dents, as shown. The lay comprises end frames 18 of aluminium, having angle-irons 23, 24 for supporting a vertical reed 22, and is provided with projections 28 carrying guide rods 27 parallel to slotted parts 25 for guiding on a bush 26 loose on a shaft 15. Each frame 18 is provided with a cam roller 37 capable of axial movement and adapted to follow eccentric and concentric cam grooves 32, 33 between a pair of cam discs 30 on the shaft 15. The grooves 32, 33 merge through inclines 34, 35. The shaft 15 makes an idle revolution while the lay is in its rearward position.
