424,505. Printing. EDGE, J. W., 526, Stanley Road, Bootle, Liverpool, and LIVERPOOL ELECTRIC CABLE CO., Ltd., 7, Playhouse Yard, Golden Lane, London. Sept. 7, 1933, No. 24753. [Class 100 (ii)] Printing-surfaces; inking-apparatus; printing on curved surfaces.-Numerals or other symbols are printed on flat or curved surfaces by means of a hollow printing-wheel adapted to contain ink, the rim of the wheel being adapted to guide and positively locate the surfaces during the printing operation. As shown for printing on electric cables, a detachable annular rim 4 shaped to fit a circular cable is clamped between discs 1, 2 by screws 3, the wheel thus formed being rotatably mounted in association with a machine for covering cables by the extrusion process. Grooves 5 representing the symbols are cut in the surface of the rim, and ink is supplied to the grooves by apertures 7 extending into an ink chamber 6. The ink supply may be assisted by threads 5<a> passed through the apertures and laid along the grooves. Alternatively, ink may be supplied by an absorbent pad fitted inside the wheel.
