[Class 38 (v)] [See also Group VIII] A master switch for controlling the timed operation of a laundry washing or like plant comprises an arm 7 driven at a predetermined rate by means for example of a motor so that wipers 8 carried by the arm sweep over concentric circles of socket contacts 2, 3 ... 6 and close at predetermined times circuits selected by placing jacks into particular sockets. The jacks control circuits to relay devices which operate valves for delivering liquids and may also control rotation of a washing drum. The jacks are preferably wired to other jacks plugged into sets of sockets 10, 11, 12, 13, 18, 35 corresponding to particular operations. The sockets 2 ... 6 may be arranged at intervals representing minutes and an indicator 30 on the opposite side of the board to the arm 7 shows the position of the latter. Additional sockets 31 electrically connected to an annular member 32 permanently engaged by the arm 7 may be engaged manually by the jacks so as to cause any operation at any time desired independently of the timed movement of the arm 7. A ratchet coupling is provided between the arm 7 and its driving mechanism to enable the arm to be reset. Specification 424,418 is referred to.
